Houston Area Community Services, Inc. (HACS) is a not for profit healthcare organization which provides needed, affordable healthcare and supportive services to individuals and families in the City of Houston and its surrounding counties.  HACS is dedicated to eradicating health disparities in the communities we serve.

HACS' History

HACS was founded in 1998 as a grass roots response to the HIV epidemic in the City of Houston/Harris County. Increasing numbers of African Americans and Hispanics became infected despite many mainstream or traditional approaches to prevention and care. Health disparities became more apparent as HIV infection rates continued to climb. Such disparities occurred in other systems of care; not just HIV. With our community stakeholders HACS developed and implemented healthcare and behavioral health programs which recognized the importance of culture. HACS blended “traditional”  and non traditional approaches incorporating the cultural mores of individuals and various consumer groups. Our consumers demanded HACS to provide care to their loved ones and families because of our innovative approach to coordinated healthcare. After receiving accreditation from the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) in 2005 for Ambulatory Care and Behavioral Health, HACS transferred its knowledge of providing culturally competent, quality services to the general community. By 2007 HACS fully expanded its healthcare and social services to ALL individuals and families needing affordable healthcare services. Our integrated service delivery approach remains one of HACS’ many competitive advantages.
